Looking to start your career on the inland towboat circuit? The Steersman License is your first step into the world of commercial towing on rivers and inland waterways. This USCG credential allows you to operate under supervision while accruing the sea time needed to upgrade to Mate or Pilot of Towing Vessels.

Welcome to the Steersman License Course at The Captain School in Orange Beach, Alabama. This course is designed for individuals seeking a USCG Steersman License, which qualifies mariners to operate uninspected towing vessels on inland waters and Western Rivers.

The Steersman credential is the entry-level license for aspiring tugboat operators and is a required step toward becoming a Mate or Master of Towing Vessels. It’s an ideal choice for those looking to build a career in commercial towing, harbor services, or river operations.
